If you are a student from Brazil there are various ways to fund your studies overseas.
From scholarships and study loans to private funding, we will make sure you have all the information you need to finance your university studies. Working with our team of experts, we’ll work out if you fit the criteria for any study loans or bursaries, whether you’re eligible for any full or partial scholarships, or how much you may need to fund privately. What funding options are available to students from Brazil?
University scholarships
Most universities will offer some type of financial support to students from Brazil.
Scholarships tend to change each academic year and vary from programme to programme. Some are automatic, some are highly competitive, some are partial, some cover all tuition fees. We will firstly check if there are any scholarships available for the programme you are interested in. If so, we can then guide you through the steps towards applying for one. Please note that scholarships are often partial (covering a proportion of the tuition fees) although some may cover all fees, including living expenses.
Study Loans for Brazilians
Brazilian students are not able to secure study loans directly from banks in the UK or Holland. Therefore study loans can only be secured from specialist study loan organisations in Brazil.
Scholarships in Brazil
There are various scholarship programmes available in Brazil that cover Master’s and PhD study. The most well-known of which is CAPES. On this page you will find a full overview of all programmes available to Brazilians.
Private Funds
The majority of students from Brazil fund their studies partly, or fully, through private means, or in combination with a study loan or (partial) scholarship.
Scholarships and funding in Brazil
Each university has different financing options and/or discounts for students from Brazil. Most of the funding and scholarship options available for Brazilian students are for Master’s or Research level studies and only limited options are available at undergraduate level. British Council - STEM Scholarships for women
Who can apply?
- Women from eligible countries who wish to pursue a master’s degree in selected Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programmes at participating UK universities. Eligible programmes change each year.
- Applicants who can demonstrate a need for financial support.
- Applicants with the required level of English to study their chosen programme in the UK.
- Applicants who are actively involved in their chosen field of study.
What support is provided?
- Financial support covering tuition fees, living expenses, travel costs, visa fees and health coverage.
- Additional support for mothers.
- Support with IELTS.
When should you apply?
- Application dates vary by university, but applications generally open in January and close in March.

British Council - IELTS Award
Who can apply?
- Eligible countries change each year. For example, in 2023, Colombia was the eligible Latin American country.
- Applicants attending a higher education institution that accepts IELTS as part of its admission requirements.
- Applicants who register for an IELTS test with the British Council during the dates specified in the scholarship call and can provide a valid IELTS score on the application form.
- Applicants with a minimum overall IELTS score of 5.5.
- Applicants who can provide an acceptance letter from their institution by the deadline specified in the scholarship call.
What support is provided?
The scholarship provides between £3,000 and £10,000, depending on the tuition fees charged by the recipient’s chosen institution. The funding will be used towards the tuition fees for the recipient’s selected course.
When should you apply?
Approximate deadline for taking the IELTS test: mid-September.
Approximate deadline for completing the application and submitting all required documents: late September.

Chevening
Who can apply?
- Citizens of Chevening-eligible countries, including Brazil.
- Applicants who commit to returning to their home country for at least two years after completing their master’s degree.
- Applicants with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
- Applicants with at least two years of work experience, equivalent to 2,800 hours.
- Applicants who select three eligible one-year, full-time, taught master’s courses in the UK, excluding research-based programmes such as an MRes.
What support is provided?
- Tuition fees, subject to a funding cap for MBA programmes.
- A living allowance, subject to specified limits.
- Visa application fees.
- Return flights.
- Payment of the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), which provides access to healthcare in the UK.
- Other related support.
When should you apply?
- The first stage of the application process generally runs from August to November each year. You must apply by the first-stage deadline to be considered for the second stage. Applications are submitted in the year before you intend to begin your studies.

Fundação Estudar
Who can apply?
- Brazilian citizens, either by birth or naturalisation, aged up to 34.
- Students applying to, accepted onto or currently studying an undergraduate or postgraduate programme abroad.
- Applicants from any field of study. The selection process considers academic achievement, previous accomplishments, leadership potential and commitment to making a positive contribution to Brazil.
Eligible postgraduate programmes include master’s degrees, MBAs, LLMs, doctoral programmes and postdoctoral studies.
What support is provided?
- Financial support covering between 5% and 90% of the applicant’s funding needs.
- The scholarship may contribute towards tuition fees, accommodation, food, transport, books and other essential study-related expenses.
- The award may be combined with other scholarships or sources of funding and does not need to be repaid.
When should you apply?
Applications normally open once a year, during the first few months of the year. Deadlines vary annually, so applicants should check the official programme website for the latest dates.
Students may apply while awaiting a university admission decision, but they must provide evidence of acceptance or enrolment during a later stage of the selection process.

NL Scholarship
Application criteria?
- Your nationality is non-EEA.
- You are applying for a full-time bachelor’s or master’s programme at one of the participating Dutch higher education institutions.
- You meet the specific requirements of the institution of your choice. You can find these on the website of the institution.
- You do not have a degree from an education institution in the Netherlands.
What support is provided?
Financial support of €5,000 for the first year of study.
Which universities participate?
The list of participating universities changes every year. In 2026/27, Inova’s partner universities participating in the programme include:

When should you apply?
Approximate dates: Applications usually open in November, with two application rounds. The first deadline is 1 February, while the second is either 1 May or 1 June, depending on the university.

GREAT Scholarships
Who can apply?
- Applicants to selected programmes at participating universities, which change each year. For example, in 2023, Inova’s partner universities participating in the programme included:
- Goldsmiths, University of London
- Nottingham Trent University
- University of Glasgow
- University of Southampton
- University of Stirling
- Brazilian citizens.
- Applicants who hold an undergraduate degree and can demonstrate motivation and an interest in the proposed subject area.
- Applicants who meet the English-language requirements of their chosen UK higher education institution.
- Applicants who are committed to engaging with the UK as a scholar through personal and academic development.
- Applicants who are willing to attend a meeting of UK-based GREAT scholars to share their experiences and perspectives on studying in the UK.
- Applicants who are willing to remain in contact with the British Council and their higher education institution and act as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarships.
- Applicants who, as future GREAT Scholarships alumni, are willing to speak occasionally with prospective candidates about their experience of studying in the UK.
What support is provided?
The scholarship generally provides a £10,000 contribution towards tuition fees, although the amount may vary by year and university.
When should you apply?
Applications usually open in November each year. Deadlines vary by university but generally fall between April and June.

Scottish Power Scholarships
Who can apply?
- Students who hold, or are about to receive, a bachelor’s or master’s degree equivalent to a UK 2:1, demonstrating academic excellence, and who have an interest in sustainable energy.
- Applicants with an English-language certificate that meets the scholarship requirements.
- Applicants who have applied for a one-year master’s degree at a UK university in one of the following subject areas:
- Electrical, mechanical, civil or electronic engineering
- Sustainable, energy or offshore renewable engineering
- Environmental science or climate change
- Computer science, software engineering or cybersecurity
- Real-time systems, control systems, or electrical and computer engineering
- Data analytics, data science, mathematics or statistics
What support is provided?
- Tuition fees at a UK university.
- An annual allowance of £14,400 towards living expenses and study materials, paid in monthly instalments of £1,200.
When should you apply?
Estimated application period: 1 February to 31 March.

University Scholarships
Who can apply?
University-funded scholarships are generally open to students who hold either a conditional or unconditional offer for an undergraduate, master’s or doctoral programme. They are usually awarded on the basis of academic excellence, although other criteria may sometimes apply.
What support is provided?
Most scholarships cover part of the tuition fees, although some may cover up to 100%. Funding is generally lower for undergraduate students and higher for master’s and doctoral students.
When should you apply?
Deadlines vary considerably between universities. Applications for doctoral scholarships may open as early as December of the year before the intended start date. Undergraduate and master’s scholarship deadlines generally fall between March and June of the year in which studies begin, although this can vary. Some scholarships do not require a separate application, as eligible students are considered automatically.
