Location

There is a huge amount to do in Durham, from walks and boat trips along the River Wear, to street markets and museum visits.

The city also plays host to the popular Lumiere Festival, the largest light festival in the UK, and there are range of leisure facilities and attractions.

Durham’s famous cathedral and castle are at the heart of the city, forming a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is compact and friendly, welcoming students and visitors to a mix of high street shops and boutiques, excellent cafés, bars, restaurants and cultural activities. No matter where you are in the city, you are never far from the university’s colleges, academic departments and facilities.
