Location

Sheffield is a vibrant, welcoming and innovative city with a long tradition of hosting international students.

Located in the heart of the UK, Sheffield is ideally placed for exploring the rest of the country. It is also one of the UK’s greenest cities, with more than 250 parks, woodlands and gardens, while the nearby Peak District National Park offers easy access to hiking, cycling, climbing and a wide range of outdoor activities.

Sheffield combines a rich industrial heritage with a thriving contemporary arts, music and cultural scene. The University’s campus is integrated into the city centre, giving students easy access to shops, cafés, entertainment venues and transport links. Most student accommodation is within walking distance of campus, helping to create a close-knit and connected student community.

Sheffield’s reputation for delivering an exceptional student experience was recognised when the University was named University of the Year for Student Experience 2026.* This accolade reflects the quality of student life both on campus and across the city. Students benefit from a relatively low cost of living compared with many other UK university cities, as well as access to one of the country’s most highly regarded Students’ Unions. At the 2024 Whatuni Student Choice Awards, Sheffield was ranked number one for Student Life and Best Students’ Union, the latter marking a sixth consecutive year at the top.

The Students’ Union supports more than 400 clubs and societies, extensive volunteering opportunities, and excellent sports facilities catering for interests ranging from American football to climbing.
